Located in close proximity to our clinic, The OB/GYN Infectious Disease Research Center provides a unique opportunity for active involvement in translational research.
Drs. Jonathan, Constance and Sebastian Faro, with the assistance of Gerald Riddle, are working to better understand mechanisms of disease affecting women’s health by researching group B streptococcus (GBS), chronic urinary tract infections, vaginitis, hidradenitis suppurativa and surgical site infections in collaboration with Nanologix, Inc, (a biotechnology company based in Hubbard, Ohio). The doctors have developed a trial for use in detection of GBS, and further work on this trial, with modification to the test, has revealed that additional organisms such as E. coli, Neisseria gonorrhea, Enterococcus and Candida albicans may be detected in under an hour. Building on this work they have also determined antimicrobial susceptibility for each organism in less than 24 hours.
Drs. Jonathan, Constance and Sebastian Faro look forward to testing these trials in clinical scenarios such as preterm, premature rupture of membranes.
